January
1 January A Happy and Prosperous New Year to everyone in Hartshill and Harpfields.
The first Committee Meeting of 2018 takes place on Tuesday 9 January at the Greyhound Shelton New Road at 6.45pm
The deadline for contributions for the Spring Newsletter which will be available at the end of January is Sunday 21 January. This edition will be a reduced four page one with no advertising.
4 January The Environmental Crime Unit issued a formal notice on 19 December under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949 - section 4 to remove the rubbish from the rear of the premises of the former Gilberts House Furnishers at the corner of Balloon Street and Stoke Old Road which was reported at the Public Meeting in November. The Association wrote to the owners - Newer Dawn Properties Ltd of Wilmslow on 27 November to remove the rubbish but received no response.
24 January The Spring Newsletter is with the printer and a copy has been published on the website at 2018 Newsletters/Spring Newsletter.
Rubbish left at the end of Coronation Road and in the adjacent alleyway, consisting of plastic boxes and four chairs has been reported to Environmental Crime. - cleared Tuesday 30 January.
3 February Checked out Alleyway behind Victoria Street with Councillor Pender - requires serious clean up - hopefully use of contractors to clear.
5 February Tyres are being removed this week from the former Wacky Tyres yard.
13 February Victoria Street alleyway cleared of rubbish - residents please don't use it as a dumping ground again - it is your responsibility to keep it clean not anyone else's.
20 February The emptying of the overfull dog bin Thornburrow Drive/Ashlands Road was reported today and had been cleared by Thursday.
20 February A pothole at the junction of Nelson Road and Hartshill Road was reported and has been acknowledged with the job no. D18141128.
23 February At the Public Meeting on Monday the following questions were asked.
1. Who do we contact to report private hire vehicles parked in residents' only parking and other places when they should by rights return to base? Hackney Carriage Licensing 01782 232774 or e-mail hcp.licensing@stoke.gov.uk with details of plate no. and place (and whether Stoke or Newcastle).
2. Ditto Potholes - highways.client@stoke.gov.uk with location and with photograph if possible.
3. Ditto Leaves and Gullies - Highways Client as above.
4. Residents complained that they did not receive City News - Linda Davies to check.
23 February Received information that the rear yard at the former Gilbert's Furnishers in Balloon Street has been cleared.
28 February The Sentinel has published an article on former Gilbert's premises with a photograph showing the rear yard cleared of rubbish - there remains a skip and what appear to be some mattresses stacked up. The Sentinel have been unable to contact the owners of the building who are based in Wilmslow - Newer Dawn Properties c/o County Milk Products Ltd Dean Court 85 Adlington Road Wilmslow Cheshire SK9 2BT.
7 March At the Public Meeting a question was asked why no action was taken against householders in Victoria Street who leave their bins on the pavement all week - a letter is being delivered this week regarding this nuisance.
9 March Just Finns is now closed on Mondays and open all day on Thursdays - times of opened remain the same.

9 March Abandoned Cars - any cars abandoned in the "open air" can be removed and disposed of by the Council - 6 opposite the Red Lion have been reported this afternoon having been there for many months. The car pictured below - a silver Renault Megane was taxed until 31 October 2014 and the MOT ran out on 24 February 2016.

22 March The defibrillator has been installed at the North Staffs Medical Institute - thanks to all who made it happen.

6 April The last of the six abandoned cars left opposite the Red Lion in Stoke Old Road now on the back of a low loader presumably on the point of departure. It would be interesting to learn whether the same vehicle has removed the others and where they were taken. A low loader has been parked there on several occasions.
20 April The Summer Newsletter is now with the printer and with delivered from next weekend. A copy has been uploaded to the website on the 2018 Newsletters page.
20 April Sometime ago the condition of Thornburrow Drive and particularly its potholes were reported and it has been noted that the potholes have been outlined in orange paint. Two small potholes were repaired at the junction of Thornburrow Drive and Ashlands Road. A response regarding the repairs of the other large holes has bee received and the job raised, though with no indication of a date for the work to be carried out.

The above potholes were filled in late April. There are two teams working on the pothole problem. Potholes marked in orange are dealt with by the City Council, those marked in white by outside contractors.
23 May In the article on Universal Credit in the current HHRA Newsletter the details for Disability Solutions has been included in error. The Citizens Advice Bureau have received funding to help with queries on Universal Credit and should be contacted if assistance is required.
13 June The Report of the June Committee Meeting has been published to the website at Constitution and Committee/2018 Dates of Meetings/Committee Agendas and Reports.
30 July After some problems accessing the website we are now back up and running - the latest uploads are the Report of the Committee Meeting on 3 July and the publication of the Autumn Newsletter. The latter can be read at 2018 Newsletters.
31 August The Reports of the Committee Meeting held on 7 August and the Public Meeting held on 20 August have been uploaded to the website on the Constitution and Committee pages for 2018.
21 September The Report of the Committee Meeting on 4 September is now available on the website.
21 September Three members of the Committee together with Councillor Pender two Council Officers and PCSO Yvonne Taylor-Klebukowski carried out a Ward Walkabout this morning covering Hartshill Road Cumming Street Stoke Old Road Victoria Street and The Avenue looking for problems which need attention. These included incorrect use of bins, blocked gullies and other causes of flooding, trees and hedges obstructing pavements and the state of the unadopted alleyway at the rear of Victoria Street.
1 October HHRA have made an application to the City Council's Community Investment Fund for a grant to install a second Noticeboard in Hartshill. If successful this will be sited by the bus stop at Ashwell Road and thus in the vicinity of the Hartshill Pharmacy and Hartshill Medical Centre and on the route to Harpfield Primary Academy.

30 October The Sentinel reports that multi-way traffic lights will be in operation at the junction of The Avenue and Albany Road from tomorrow 31 October until 5 November.
30 October Thanks to the persistence of a resident and Councillor Pender the flytipping featured below in Trafalgar Road is promised to be removed today. It highlights a problem which is constant in Hartshill where people are incapable, for whatever reason, of following the accepted methods of disposal of their rubbish, either by putting it in the wrong bins or not paying for its removal.
4 November Gullies in Albany Road and at its junction with Longfield Road have been cleansed now as a result of information provided after the Ward walkabout. A pothole in Albany Road has been repaired too.

5 November The Annual General Meeting takes place a fortnight today and HHRA are looking for new members to join the Committee.
21 November Reminder that the last Brown Bin Collection of 2018 takes place this Friday 23 November. Collections resume in March.
28 November The planning application for the garage and MOT testing station for R & B Autos in the former Wacky Tyres building has been granted and should open in the next fortnight.
